A court has ordered to send five people, including four students of Jagannath University, to jail in a case filed with the Sutrapur police station in connection with the attack on police. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesse passed the order on Friday.
- The five accused who went to jail along with four students of Jagannath University are- Al Sadiq Hridoy, a student of social sciences department of the university, Mehedi Hasan alias Sifat of anthropology department, Sajedul Islam alias Naeem, Md. Of zoology department. Sohanur Rahman and one Joy Das.
According to case sources, some students of Jagannath University in front of Kabi Nazrul Government College in Old Dhaka were vandalizing cars and shops on Thursday night in an attempt to attack Sutrapur Thana BCL activists.
The plaintiff in the case and Sub-Inspector of Sutrapur Police Station Ejaz Ahmed Rumi and his allied forces forbade them to vandalize their cars and shops. The accused then randomly punched him and other policemen on duty there and inflicted serious injuries on various parts of his body. Police later arrested five people from the spot. Those involved in the attack were identified by looking at CCTV footage of the scene and its surroundings.
Sub-inspector Ejaz Ahmed Rumi filed a case against Sutrapur police station on Friday morning accusing 25/30 people including five others. The five accused were produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on the same day. Investigating officer Sutrapur police SI said. Abu Taleb applied for remand for seven days for each accused. At that time, the lawyer of the accused party held a hearing seeking bail. After the hearing, the court ordered to send them to jail.
