This is possible by calling 999. The general public is getting quick remedy by calling the helpline number of the National Emergency Service in case of danger. For this reason, 999 is gradually becoming the center of trust. The number of calls has increased. At the same time, the type of service expectation is also increasing.
Data analysis has shown that 999 calls for relief assistance, allegations of embezzlement of relief materials, coronavirus infection testing and treatment information and complaints, rape-sexual harassment, domestic violence, theft-snatching are being received by 999.
Prime Minister's Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy on in 2016 inaugurated the national emergency service '999' aimed at providing emergency assistance to people across the country. Since its launch in 2016, 2.5 crore calls have come to this national emergency service center. In the last seven months, 4,99,858 calls have been received for information and assistance on corona.
An 18-year-old college student went to visit the family of Ripon Bepari of Laxmipura Mahalla High School Road in Bhandaria Municipal Area of Pirojpur after getting acquainted with her family. On the morning of October 26, with the help of housewife Firoza Begum, a neighbor named Sohail Munshi (28) tried to rape the girl. The girl tactfully called 999 and asked for help. After a while, the police of Bhandaria police station went and rescued the girl. Sohail Munshi and Firoza Begum were arrested on charges of aiding and abetting rape.
Bhandaria Police Station OC SM Maksudur Rahman said that after receiving a call on 999, the police rescued the girl and took legal action. When the girl was contacted, she told , 'Suddenly it came to my mind to call 999. Let's call in secret. The whole situation was against me. The police arrived within minutes of me calling. '
Akhtarul Islam, director of the Lalmoni Express train, which left for Kamalapur in Dhaka on November 1, called 999 and said that a sick woman was groaning in pain and was bleeding. The train was passing through Muladuli area of Ishwardi in Pabna. Within half an hour, the train stopped at Ullapara in Sirajganj and the patient was admitted to Ullapara Upazila Health Complex. The woman's brother Dola Mia said, 'I did not understand what to do in the train. Then the man on the train called 999. I saw the ambulance as soon as the train stopped. Dola Mia said she got on the Lalmoni Express train from Bamandanga in Gaibandha with her sister Ripuli (25). His sister had an abortion a month ago. He did not fully recover. He started bleeding and in pain when he got on the train. Ripuli recovered quickly with treatment.
On September 29, Nazrul Islam (45) was sitting in his grocery store in the alley of Hossain Saheb in Pulpur, Mohammadpur. A young man entered the shop around noon and started hitting him with a sharp weapon. Seeing such a scene, people ran away in panic without rescuing him. A pedestrian wisely called 999 and informed about the incident. Police rushed to the spot and arrested the assailant Rahat Mia, but the businessman Nazrul was rescued and taken to hospital but could not be rescued.
Mohammadpur Police Station OC Abdul Latif said it was possible to arrest the accused in the murder case of businessman Nazrul due to a call to 999.
Apart from this, by calling the helpline number of the National Emergency Service, the stolen car or cow is being recovered; The passengers of the launch, which was once stuck in the middle of the river, are safely returning to shore.
999 Emergency Services is an emergency call center run by the Bangladesh Police. From here emergency police, fire service and ambulance services are provided. Anyone from any part of the country can avail these emergency services by calling 999. The call center service was launched by the police under the Ministry of Home Affairs on December 12, 2016 to provide emergency services to citizens of all walks of life. The call center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 999 is a toll free number. The caller does not have to spend any money to call this number.

Types of calls have changed in Corona: The concerned officials said that since its inception till October 31, 2 crore 52 lakh 6 thousand 28 calls have been received on 999 number. Of these, one crore 99 lakh 29 thousand 429 calls were fake. The service delivery call (CFS) was 53 lakh 57 thousand 598. Of these, four lakh 13 thousand 6 calls have been provided directly. Of these, police service has been provided in three lakh three thousand 46 calls. Fire service was provided through fire service in 43 thousand 596 calls. Ambulance service is provided in 75 thousand 993 calls. As seen in the last seven months, 4,99,858 people have called and asked for information and help on corona.
Help prevent rape: Allegations of domestic violence, rape and sexual harassment have increased during the Corona period. According to the 999 Help Desk, there were 6,269 calls for violence against women and children last year. And in the first 10 months of this year, 7,835 calls came. At the beginning of the Corona period, March had the highest number of 1,164. After that it has decreased a bit. In the six months from May 1 to October 31, 299 calls were received to 999 alleging rape. At that time, 121 people complained of attempted rape and 133 people complained of sexual harassment. In six months, 595 women complained of torture against their husbands for various reasons including dowry.
