Mamunul had involvement with foreign-national militant organization: Police

Police have gleaned information that Mamunul Haque, the former joint secretary general of the defunct committee of Hefazat-e-Islam, has close ties with local and international militant organizations.
Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zaidul Alam told in press conference at his office on Sunday afternoon after an 18-days remand in six cases of Mamunul.
Police also claimed that they have found primary evidence of rape of Jannat Ara Jharna, incitement to sabotage during the nationwide strike and ambitions to seize state power. The information provided to the three investigating agencies is being verified, the SP told.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zaidul Alam said, "We have investigated various activities of Mamunul Haque." We have received preliminary information of closeness with domestic and international militant organizations, it will be clearly stated after further investigation.
Mamunul's 'main target' was to aspire to state power. That is why 'leaders of different religious groups have joined him'.
Regarding the rape case of Jannat Ara Jharna, the SP said that in the rape case, he could not provide any valid documents and any evidence of marriage in accordance with the Shariah or the legal framework of the country.
Informing that the plaintiff in the case Jannat Ara Jharna had received preliminary evidence of rape, he said, "We have found similarity in the statement made by Jharna in the case." The prosecution will ensure that the plaintiff gets a fair trial.
