At least 50 people killed in a factory fire in Rupganj

At least 50 people have been killed in a fire at the Hashem Food and Beverage Limited factory in Rupganj, Narayanganj, a fire service source said.
The fire service source said after 1.30 pm on Friday that 33 bodies have been recovered so far. The death toll could be at least 50. There are many bodies lying on the 4th floor of the building.
The fire broke out at the factory located in Karnagop area of Rupganj upazila around 5pm on Thursday. But the fire was not brought under control even after 16 hours due to the efforts of 16 units of the fire service.
Workers were killed and delays in extinguishing fires led to chases, brickbats and clashes between police and workers.
At around 11am on Friday, the agitated workers attacked, vandalized and looted the Ansar camp of the factory. Ansar authorities alleged that they looted three shotguns from the archives.
