Cross-platform voice over IP and instant messaging app Rakuten Viber saw significant growth in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region last year. Over the past year, the Cavid-19 epidemic has led to significant changes in the way people communicate under house arrest, which has increased Viber dependence on Asia-Pacific, as in many parts of the world.

Rakuten Viber claims that the number of Viber users in the Asia-Pacific region increased by 421 percent in December last year. At the same time, the number of messages sent from Viber has increased by 509 percent and the number of group messaging has also increased significantly. As well as community messaging, Viber's community feature has received a great response from users.

Comparing the data from January and December last year, a significant increase in the use of Viber has been recorded in certain markets in Asia-Pacific regions like Bangladesh, which was one of the most successful years of Viber in a decade.

According to Rakuten Viber, compared to 2019, the active use of Viber in Bangladesh has increased by 72 percent last year. Based on the number of people logging in to Viber, Bangladeshis have spent more time in the Viber community. User community participation increased by 149 percent and community messaging increased by 116 percent. Last year Viber users used more texting, audio calls, video calls and chat extensions. Viber video calls have increased by 40 percent and chat extensions by 47 percent.

Viber authorities introduced new features like My Notes last year to maintain a continuum of high-quality service to Asia Pacific and improve the app usage experience. It helps users integrate a to-do list and media across all their devices. Last year, Viber doubled the number of participants in group calls and audio calls to a maximum of 20.
