The police are coming up with a big cleansing operation in the face of criticism including the Teknaf and Pallabi incidents. Following the assassination of former Major Sinha in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, there are plans to streamline the police.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has held several special meetings with senior officials.

According to meeting sources, there is a plan to remove police officers or members who have been working in the same place for years. Sources said that those involved in irregularities and corruption are also being listed. Major reshuffles are planned for any time this month. A list has already been made. Several police sources said that there were several DIGs and police superintendents among them. Sources also said that it has been sent to his office for the consent of the Prime Minister.

An official with the rank of DIG at the police headquarters told Business tribune on Monday on condition of anonymity that several initiatives have been taken to prevent another incident like Teknaf anywhere in the country. No member working in Teknaf police station will be kept there. Several members have already been transferred. He added that the Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ukhia, Pekua and Maheshkhali police stations, which have been working for more than two years, are being considered for transfer. Moreover, after receiving the report of the detectives, action will be taken to identify the corrupt people.

IGP Sir has told us that he wants to make the police a stigma-free police force and build the police as a people's force. We hope that those who are committing such misdeeds in different parts of the country, taking hostages instead of serving the people, causing misery to the people through corruption and arbitrariness will be identified soon.

After taking charge on April 15 this year, the IGP issued a stern warning to the members of the police, saying that the people must be police. Strict action will be taken if any corruption or irregularity is involved. Those involved in or assisting drug traffickers will be severely repressed.

I want to see the police free from corruption and drugs. The IGP said the purpose of the police members in a few meetings was to either stay in your area or have drugs. If you have drugs you can't stay, if you have drugs you can't stay. The discipline of the force must be strict. In this case no exemption or relaxation can be shown.
